A Time for Change

It’s no secret that the year 2020 has been dismal for several reasons. As a retail business owner, it’s been difficult to remain optimistic amidst the pandemic and a most divisive election season. However, if there is a silver lining to this looming cloud, it helped me come to a realization that has allowed me to make some changes to my business model. As I grow closer 60 years old and an eventual retirement, I’ve come to realize that for my own personal health and well being, I needed to cut back. I’m just not able to log 60+ hours and…

Delivery Breakdown

Although it doesn’t happen often, we are asked from time to time why we charge what we do for delivery and sometimes we’re asked why we even charge a fee at all.  As it currently stands, our delivery fee ranges from $5 to $12.  The smallest fee is assigned to deliveries within the city limits of Valley, where our shop is located.  The next step up is a $6 fee for any delivery within the city limits of our neighboring towns of Lanett and West Point.  Outside of the city limits of the three towns, fees will range from $7…

A note about prom bouquets and searching for them on the internet…

I have an urgent message going out to all local high school girls that are looking through photos on Pinterest and other online sources for inspiration for their prom bouquets… Please be aware that most of the photos that you are seeing when you do a search for “prom bouquets” are not prom bouquets at all…they are bridal bouquets.  For whatever reason, Pinterest is not picking up on the word “PROM” and are returning too many results that are wedding bouquets. Now…why is this an issue?  The last dozen or so teens that have come in the shop with a…

Popular Wedding Months

Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen a trend growing.  Brides are now electing to have their wedding in the Early Spring or Late Fall…the most popular months for weddings now are March and October.  For years…decades even…June was the go to month for weddings.  But, with another popular trend, outdoor weddings, that represent over 75% of our recent weddings, we assume that brides are staying away from those hottest summer months and extreme temperatures.  As a result, many brides are surprised when they inquire about a wedding date that has already been booked, as they wouldn’t believe that…

Prom Season officially begins in March and will last for 4 to 6 weeks.  We will receive dozens upon dozens of orders in March through April.  Here are a few observations and suggestions I can offer to make your prom experience, at least in regards to flowers, a little less stressful. 1.  Order early.  If you pay attention to our Facebook page, you know that this is my mantra for most every major holiday and event.  You cannot early too early.  However, on the flip side, you can indeed wait until it’s too late.  Why, you might ask?  After all,…

2017 Wedding Season Coming to a Close

Or is it? I really don’t know when “Wedding Season” is any more! Traditionally it was thought to be April through June (ever heard the term “June Bride”?), but over the last few years, I’ve had less and less weddings during that time and I’ve noticed brides electing to have their weddings in late summer and Fall. This year is certainly a testament to that…more than half of our contracted weddings in 2017 were during the months of August and September. In 2016, October was the heaviest month at our shop for weddings. Why such a shift? Who knows? I…

Flower Spotlight: Sunflowers

The sunflower isn’t unusual. It’s normally not a flower that people go bonkers over trying to get. It’s actually quite common, and some may wonder how it even finds its way from the field into arrangements. Those who overlook its beauty don’t realize that they are missing out on a pretty awesome flower! History Sunflowers are native to North America and were cultivated by Native Americans as far back as 3000 BCE. By the 1500’s, the sunflower had made its way to Europe and was grown as an ornamental, before becoming popular for its oil. Russian farmers were the first…
